From Vision to Blueprint – The Scaled Concept Drawing

Every custom mosaic mural we create begins with a detailed, scaled concept drawing. For this rustic New England outdoor shower, we worked closely with the homeowner to translate their vision into a precise layout that balanced natural textures, color placement, and the flow of the scene. The drawing allowed us to map each handmade ceramic tile piece, stone, and glass element in proportion, ensuring the final installation captured the customer’s intended atmosphere.

Introducing New Handmade Tile Designs

This project gave us the opportunity to debut several new additions to our Lake, Pond, & River Dog Tile Collection as well as our Snow Dog Tile Collection. Scattered throughout the mural are finely detailed, hand-glazed mushrooms, deer, snapping turtles, and Ice Crystals. These new tiles add depth, personality, and storytelling to the scene, making the mural feel alive with movement and texture. By incorporating a mix of both familiar favorites and fresh creations, we were able to craft a unique piece that not only tells the story of a peaceful lakeside wilderness but also expands the creative possibilities for future Wet Dog Tile projects!

Bringing the Design to Life – The Dry Lay Process

Once the scaled concept drawing is approved, we move into production. This begins with crafting each handmade ceramic tile piece, glazing them by hand, and preparing them for assembly alongside natural stone and colored glass. Every element of the mural is then arranged onto a mesh backing that has been cut to size. At this stage, known as the dry lay, the tiles are placed without adhesive so we can photograph the entire mural and share it with the customer for final approval before gluing, shipping, and installation begins. This step ensures that the design, color palette, and overall composition perfectly align with the customer’s vision before it’s permanently set in place.
